So here we are again at the time of the year with examinations just around the corner. Being a student in this era poses its own challenges, dealing with multiple subjects and their respective homeworks, tests and examinations. If that is not difficult enough, we have parents that are deeply infected with the Kiasuism virus, frantically filling up whatever remaining free time with a couple of tuition and enrichment classes, pretty much like a person with obsessive compulsive disorder filling up pin-sized holes on the wall with spackling paste. They get anxiety attacks when they see their children on the iPad, unless they are using it to do their revision. Parents no longer just view enrichment as an activity for their kids to have fun, it’s more than that, it’s DSA. That usually leads to more exams and competitions. Children, if you are reading this, I have a great news for you. What you are facing now is really not that bad, especially if you consider that it will only get worse from here. I hope I was able to offer some solace.
For the past week, we have conducted our open house over a couple of days. No, for the last time, open house is not open to public, it means that on this day, parents can finally step foot into our glorious incubator of future stars, or torture chamber as some may call it, a.k.a the dance studio. It is the only time of the year when parents can enjoy a live performance by their beloved offsprings in front of their eyes, no more recognizing of the wrong daughter as so often happens when they watch through my highly pixelated CCTV monitor, but hey at least the resolution is better than minecraft.
This is also the time of the year when we parents and educators get reminded of how much the children have progressed and grown over the years and get a rude awakening of how we are ageing mercilessly. Looking at the children’s progress, this is when we pat our own backs and tell ourselves that it’s all worth it. The hours that the parents spent chauffeuring and waiting for their children, the sacrifices that they have made to fulfill a little one’s dreams, nothing can take away the satisfaction of watching and molding a child from a toddler that can barely balance on one foot into a young lady who dances with elegance. This is what keeps us going. We do not just provide ballet classes for children, we nurture every single one of our students like they are our own children.
